Giordano, Phelps, Manning, Longmore (2009) noted that in the adolescent period, "teenagers are really much becoming aware or "interested" about being involve in romantic relationships. They are very curious about what it feels like being in that certain romantic world. And if they will know more about it, some may consider it as really a part of growing up or somehow, this romantic relationship are important in their lives. However, most teenagers did not widened their horizons in that said relationship, like they did not consider the possibilities if they are going to engage in that certain situation - if that romantic relationships has to do with their academic performances, if this romantic relationship may or may not affect to their development as a student. But this hypothesis haven't been into in-depth research because researchers are looking on to the other angles that affects students academic performances like "parent and peer influences". They are also focusing on the other factors that affects academic performances that includes "family characteristics, social development, teacher's expectations" and the student's motivation as well, in regards to their academic performances  because the "tendency to overlook" the person that is involved in this kind of relationship may goes back to the past idea that this relationship are just "relatively" noticeable and that there is no need to examine this. They are not focusing to this romantic relationship-academic performances issue because they know that this romantic relationship are just merely existing in a short time to the teens life, unlike to the parent-peer influences that it can be considered as a lifetime influences that's why they hypothesize that this parent-peer relationship has a bigger factor in the academic development of a teenager.

EDUCATIONAL CONTRIBUTION OF OUR TOPIC

We are researching for the romantic relationships and it's effect towards the academic performance of the male and female student of the BS Computer Science student of the University of the Philippines mainly because this topic gives us the the knowledge about the impact of the romantic relationships to the academic works of a student - if this romantic relationship has an advantage or disadvantage to the academic life of a teenager. This research allows us to a understand more on what are really the factors that affects students if they will engaged in this kind of relationships. This study may also gives information to the "parents, educators and policy-makers" and specially the teens of the tendencies that may happen to the the student if they will engage in this romantic  relationships. This information may improve the "academic excellence" by providing people the awareness of the understanding of how this romantic relationships are connected  to the social norms of a student.
Exploring the effects of the romantic relationships is also useful for "assessing" how this kind of relationship affects the "outcomes" of the academic development. For example, if this romantic relationship has to do with the academic outcomes of the student like grades and other performances. It is also important because at the end of the semester, we may find out of what are the teenagers opinions and viewpoints regarding this topic.(Phelps, 2007)

NOTE 3

According to Crissey(2006), the researchers of this topic had this belief that there is only a little connection between the "academic and romantic" side of a teenager's life. This idea came to being even though there isn't enough study regarding to this, mainly because researchers "cite the informal processes in schools as one of the major reasons for the current gender stratification" - a condition of being arrange in classes within a group of person. It also connects to the movie "mean girls" - that there is this high school girl student who really loves math so much that according to her, nothing can "mess" her up in the math class. But because of this incident that one day, a popular boy named Aaron borrowed a pen from her and because of that, she sort of got a lower grade. So her classmates had this conclusion that only boys can "mess" the things in her life.
It is also stated by Crissey(2006), that there is really a challenge in "balancing romantic relationship and academic performance" in a teenager's life. There is really  a pressure on how to maintain the romantic side and the academic works as well. It is more than the pressure someone will going to feel if there is a competition inside the classroom for the academic awards at the end of the school year.

NOTE 2

According to Allison(2006), there is really a "societal pressure" for teenage girls who is involved in dating. his "societal pressure" means that girls are engaged in this kind of dating situation merely because of some influences - peers, "magazines", televisions, etc. Sometimes, if a girl don't engage herself in dating, some may considered her as "weird", maybe because in our society today, there's no more thing such as Maria Clara's, or those that are a little bit conscious/ really don't engage in dating as well as romantic relationships. Majority of the people would expect girls to already have a dating partner especially when a girls reach into their adolescent stage. This dating will usually considered as a threshold or the first step towards romantic relationships. Somehow, dating /romantic relationships have "negative and positive" outcomes into the academic performance of someone involved. It is positive in the sense that this dating thingy gives inspiration/ motivation for girls to do well in their academic works, if and only if girls will know how to manage time wisely and properly and that girls will not take dating seriously. However, it is negative on the other hand  because it will just cause "distraction".

Proposed Statement of the Problem

The main thrust of the study was to determine the effect of romantic relationships to the academic performance of BS Computer Science 2 students of the University of the Philippines Cebu College (A.Y. 2011-2012, First Sem) as well as their counterparts who do not date.  

 Statement of the Problem

            Specifically, this study sought to answer the following questions:

1.  What is the profile of the respondents   in terms of:

a.      general weighted average in first year 1^st  sem,

b.      General weighted average in first year 2^nd sem?

 2.  What is the status of time management of the respondent for those who  are engaged and their counterpart in terms of,

a.      time in studying,

b.      time in working,

c.       other significant time?

 3.  What is the experience level of the respondents in romantic relationship?

 4.  What is the level of anxiety of the respondents  in playing their role in the society,
         a.      those who are engaged,
         b.      those who are not engaged?

 5. What is the level of motivation of the respondents, 

a.      those who are engaged,

b.      those who are not engaged?

 6.  Is there a significant relationship between a grade point average and involvement in romantic relationship?

7.   Is there a significant correlation between motivation and levels of anxiety among the participants involved in romantic relationship?

According toCrissey(2006), the "literature" also believe that "stress affects academic performance". "Stress" is a continuous feeling of worry about work or personal life that prevent someone from relaxing. Campbell(2006) also says that "stress" is a condition or effect that are bad and can cause some problems. For example, a student that is having any romantic affair have a higher percentage of  "stress" than those who don't have because instead of focusing to their academic work and "academic stresses", they also commit their time to their relationship. 

Having a romantic affair especially when you are just a student would not just give a "source of stress" but also a disturbance. Having a romantic relationship is really disturbing because a student will deal on managing time between the school  and in the romantic side, that somehow leads to give academic works a lesser priority.

According to Freeman (2011), time is described in the chassidism, as the "continuous flow of positive or negative changes of a creative energy" that is the reason of all the happenings in the earth and in the outer core, just like the happenings in the internal (the happenings inside our body the keeps us alive) and external (the happenings that can be / can't be seen in our surroundings). the importance of the existence of time is clearly exists at the end of a process if someone is moving or doing some things. time changes a lot that no one can expect what it will be next.

2. Chassidism explains that for a time exists, there is usually two different relevant processes. first is that for the object to be sustained, the prime mover must have it's own personal choice. second is that the object itself must be involved and that it is unique in it's own being.  Ratzo v'shov is the artifact of the changing  of the incapabilities of this two things. in this way, it is the negotiator between the "creative force and the creative being".

TIME

1. According Tzvi Freeman (2011), "time" can also be considered as a conception of "measurement of any of the higher worlds". "Time" exists in terms that it is initiated by human or any physical phenomena. 

2. As what Tzvi Freeman (2011) described time, it is like an endless  "positive or negative" cycle  of imaginative vitality - just like the vitality of our internal beings.
